Independent Speech and Language Therapy Services Ltd

LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) LOUD is an intensive voice treatment for individuals with Parkinson's Disease.

What is LSVT LOUD?

LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) LOUD is an intensive voice treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.

LSVT LOUD primarily supports individuals to improve their vocal loudness, with positive effects also noted in other areas, such as articulation, speech intelligibility, intonation, facial expression, quality of life, and life participation. It is well researched and evidenced, with 3 randomised control trials documenting its efficacy and impact on multiple levels of functioning in people with Parkinson’s Disease.

LSVT LOUD utilises high effort exercises conducted in an intensive mode to improve voice and speech function without damaging the voice. It is a standardised treatment protocol that is customised to the unique communication goals of each person across a range of disease severity and communication impairments.

LSVT LOUD treatment consists of:

  • Initial Speech and Language Therapy assessment
  • 16 sessions: 4 consecutive days a week, for 4 weeks
  • Individual 1-hour sessions
  • Daily homework practice
  • Daily carryover exercises

How can I get a referral for LSVT LOUD?

Please contact ISLTS to register your interest for LSVT LOUD. Please see our ‘Contact’ page for telephone number and email address.

What happens next?

Our LSVT LOUD clinician, Hannah, will get in contact with you to offer an initial assessment appointment. You will be given a questionnaire and a copy of our terms of business to read and fill out prior to this appointment. Your assessment session will be approximately 1 hour long and involve a range of voice exercises.

Please note, The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists recommends that all voice patients are seen by an Otolaryngologist within 6 months prior to initiating treatment. This allows for Speech and Language Therapists to recommend an optimal treatment plan without any contraindications. If you have not been reviewed by an Otolaryngologist, at your initial assessment appointment Hannah will discuss the routes to seek this input, prior to commencing LSVT LOUD. At ISLTS, we work closely with Mr Andrew Bath FRCS (ORL) of Norfolk Private ENT Ltd, based at Spire Norwich Hospital (www.spirehealthcare.com/consultant-profiles/mr-andrew-bath-c3295203/).
